Our Beautiful World - Texture

I've always had a thing for wood. It fascinates me.
The warmth ... it feels so warm to the touch.
The smell ... so different for each type of wood, so different for wet and dry wood. The texture ... it can be smooth and rough, it is different on the inside and the outside. And it changes with age.

Our Beautiful World - Reflection

Reflection is

the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it. I love airports, the buzz and the excitement .... people to watch, new places to go. The lights and the reflections enhance the sense of this excitement ...

London Heathrow Terminal 5

but it also stands for serious thought or consideration as in pondering, meditating, considering, ....

Every day all over the island you will see these meeting points, thoughts and opinions are being exchanged, the world is being put right ...

Have a lovely end to the week, Petra.

Our Beautiful World - Cup

I hope it is ok to make it plural: cups. I saw this crockery at Pundagorda Mercadillo and fell in love with it ... the colours, the form. I would not know which cup to choose :-). The crockery is handmade by a local artist

Have a lovely week, Petra.

Our Beautiful World - By The Sea

Gosh - it has been such a long time since my last blog post ... and so much has happened! Most recently I retired and moved to a relatively small but very beautiful island in the Atlantic Ocean - La Palma. I love the sea with it's ever changing rhythm and colours.

Dotted along the coast line of La Palma are small coastal settlements - mainly holiday homes. They are very much exposed to wind, waves and the sea. One of these settlements is Playa Hoyo situated right next to the airport of Santa Cruz de La Palma

The planes turn into the airport right above the coastal houses.

The sea and it's impact is never far away from life on La Palma.

Wishing you all a very good start to your week and I promise not to leave it for this long before writing a new blog post 😊 Petra.

Our Beautiful World - Gift

Some gifts cannot be wrapped up, they cannot be bought but it is something you give to yourself, your family, your friends ....
Such  gift is to step back from the daily madness and make time, time for a cup of coffee, for a read .... time to enjoy the moment!

Have a lovely week,  Petra.

Our Beautiful World - Black and White

Black and white ... colours which do not appear as main colours in my photos by default ... a nice challenge.
The fist image was taken during a visit of the Gran Telescopio Canarias on the Island of La Palma, Canaries. The telescope with its mirrors, computer technology and structure is  so impressive and absolutely mind-boggling. The image shows the small mirror.
After visiting the observatory I took part in a star gazing tour. The night sky was clear and the moon was so bright and clear (second image). The photo was taken through the telescope lense used for looking at the stars.

Thanks for visiting,  Petra.

Knit One Purl One ... scarf

One of my Christmas presents were two lovely balls of wool.  All soft and a little bit glittery because of the tiny sequins .... (label: kingcole Galaxy, image1)

Perfect for a scarf ... I love scarfs and cannot have enough of them :-)

I knitted it with four patterns randomly spread:
no1 - knit 4 purl 4 in 4 rows and then alternate
no2 - knit 1 purl 1, alternate in each row
no3 - purl only
no4 - for the first row purl two together and make one loop, in the second and following purl one and the loop together and make one loop
(image2)

The finished scarf looked a bit in need of something extra .... pompoms .... one for each end (image3)

Et voila ... my new lovely scarf (big smile, image4). Petra.
